The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has rolled out an initiative through which it aims to prioritise maternal and fetal health.
The initiative looks to address the rise in astrological C-sections based on the insight that every year 5,00,000 Indian women undergo elective C-sections based not on medical necessity but on astrologically chosen timings believed to bring their babies good fortune.
For this, BMC has introduced the '7 Layers of Truth'.
Expectant mothers arriving for their routine ultrasounds were given a series of seven envelopes, each representing one of the layers cut during a C-section. With every envelope, they uncovered not only an image of their baby but also truths about the surgery’s risks, recovery process, and long-term impact.
