Sports events lead the global and India search rankings: Google year in search

Copa América, the American football tournament, was the most searched term globally.

Google has released its 'Year in Search' for the year 2024. 

Globally, sports dominated the top five searches with Copa América taking the lead, followed by UEFA European Championship and ICC Men's T20 World Cup. 

In terms of brands and products, iPhone 16 was the only one that made it to the list at number eight. 

The most searched person globally was Liam Payne, after his sudden death in October this year. Donald Trump was the second most searched person. 

In India too, search trends were largely driven by sports with Indian Premier League (IPL) topping the chart, followed by the T20 World Cup. Other sporting events that made it to the list were the 2024 Olympics, the Pro Kabaddi League, and the Indian Super League. 

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was the third-most searched term followed by Election Results 2024. 

In India, the most searched person was Ratan Tata, who also passed away in October.
