Jyothy Labs has rolled out a campaign for its bio-enzyme-powered anti-bacterial Exo range, marking the brand’s entry into the dishwashing liquid category alongside a refresh of its existing bar portfolio.
Conceptualised by simple agency, the creative unit of Loggerheads, the campaign features actor Yami Gautam leading the communication across North, East and West India, while actor Keerthy Suresh fronts the brand's messaging in the Southern states.
The film opens with a man struggling to scrub a greasy frying pan without much success. His sister, played by Gautam, walks in, glances at the mountain of unwashed dishes and cheekily asks about the previous night's 'party'. Chiding him for relying on outdated dishwashing solutions, she quickly orders the brand's new antibacterial liquid dishwasher through a quick-commerce app and urges him to give it a try. The film wraps up with more light-hearted sibling banter as the product demonstrates its efficacy.
What we think about it: The film may not break new creative ground, but it does manage to subvert one of the oldest tropes in household cleaner advertising. Instead of the familiar portrayal of the overburdened homemaker battling stubborn grease while a male voiceover extols a product's scientific superiority, the commercial puts a man at the sink. More importantly, it resists the temptation to have the female protagonist take over the chore. Gautam (and Suresh in the regional campaign) simply recommends the right solution, leaving her younger brother to finish the task himself - a subtle but welcome shift in how domestic responsibilities are depicted. That said, the storytelling remains fairly formulaic beyond the role reversal, with the narrative leaning heavily on tired templates of homecare advertising.
Chirag, founder, simple agency, said, "Our brief from the very beginning was simple: the product had to remain the hero. Jyothy Labs' decision to adopt a two-voice approach allowed the campaign to connect with audiences across different parts of the country through familiar and trusted faces. As the creative agency, our role was to bring this direction to life in a way that felt locally relevant while keeping the focus firmly on anti-bacterial Exo and its performance. While the faces changed, the message remained consistent. Every creative decision was made to strengthen relatability without allowing the celebrity presence to overshadow the product."
