Toyota drives home its Hybrid message by putting India's duality in the driver's seat

Toyota India has rolled out a campaign,'India Hai Hybrid. Hybrid Hai Toyota' (India is Hybrid, Hybrid is Toyota') to spotlight its Hybrid lineup and offerings. 

The campaign comprises an ad film.

The film opens with a man declaring, "We are Hybrid," as visuals of the Toyota Hybrid appear on screen. He describes being hybrid as a defining trait while highlighting the car's silent cabin and superior hybrid power. The narration then shifts to a woman who compares India's blend of trends and tradition to wearing kurtas with sneakers, as the film showcases features such as its smooth EV drive. Reinforcing the message that the best of both worlds can coexist, the film transitions into an upbeat track with the line, "That's the Hybrid way of living," adding that Toyota designs technology for the way India lives and drives. The film concludes by claiming that eight out of ten hybrids in India are Toyota Hybrids, reinforcing its message that just as India is hybrid, Toyota Hybrid is the nation's choice.

What we think about it: The film's central insight is compelling, but the execution feels disjointed, jumping between product shots and multiple narrators without a clear narrative thread. Frequent narration interruptions and abrupt visual transitions make the story feel scattered, diluting what could have been a stronger and more memorable hybrid proposition.

The campaign was released on YouTube and Instagram on 13 July.
