Spotify India's Wrapped 2024 campaign

Spotify India has rolled out a film to announce the launch of Spotify Wrapped. Titled 'How To Get Over Your Ex' featuring social media personalities Orhan Awatramani (aka Orry) and Uorfi Javed. The campaign promotes the platform’s annual rewind feature, 'Spotify Wrapped', which was released on Wednesday and offers users an engaging look back at their music preferences.

The ad film is set in an urban pub, where the quirky duo of Javed and Orry bump into each other while partying. Curious about Orry’s Spotify Wrapped list, Javed asks whether it features Bollywood, Hip Hop, or Rock. Orry smugly responds that he listens to music she would have 'never heard of', describing it with exaggerated, vague terms like 'depressed lollipop asylum' and 'deep, deep underground', while mocking her for being 'too desi'. Undeterred, Javed persists in her questioning, leading to humorous exchanges.

Finally losing her patience, Javed grabs Orry’s phone to check his Spotify Wrapped. To her amusement, his top song is a popular Hindi track from the Bollywood movie Tamasha. Embarrassed, Orry confesses that it was his go-to song to get over his ex.

What we think about it: The campaign is a self-deprecatory, lighthearted dig at the pretentiousness of modern day 'social media celebrities’, featuring two of the most 'in-your-face' internet personalities of our times. The campaign playfully serves as a timely reminder for everyone to explore their own Spotify Wrapped lists.

Following this ad film (above), the digital music service released a new campaign 'Team Bhidu or Team Bandruh,' featuring actors Ananya Panday and Jackie Shroff. The film begins with Panday checking her Spotify Wrapped results, prompting Shroff to tease her about constantly being on her phone. The narrative unfolds humorously as the duo, while on a shoot, imitate each other in a playful challenge to switch roles. Ultimately, they bond over discovering that their most-played song is the same which is Big Dawgs by Hanumankind.

These two films follow teasers featuring Dilip Tahil, Sanju Rathod, Mohammad Faiz, Jonita Gandhi and Anuv Jain.
