Surf Excel has rolled out the latest chapter of its long-running Daag Achhe Hain campaign, turning a school sports meet into a larger lesson on empathy, kindness and what it means to win.
The film opens at a school’s annual sports meet, where children are competing in a race as their anxious parents cheer from the sidelines. Just as a young boy appears poised for victory, he slips and falls inches from the finish line. What happens next subverts the usual logic of competition. Instead of taking advantage of his fall to race ahead, the other children stop and fall alongside him, turning a moment of defeat into an unexpected celebration of solidarity, much to the surprise of the onlookers. The film culminates with the thought, ‘Jo dil ko choo jaye, woh daag achhe hain.’(Stains that touch the heart are good)
What we think about it: The campaign's latest chapter extends the thought beyond the familiar idea of stains as markers of childhood mischief, by questioning the win-at-all-costs mindset children are increasingly exposed to. While the execution and emotional payoff works, the narrative itself leans on a familiar advertising trope of competition giving way to compassion.
