Truecaller has appointed former Meta India executive Sandeep Bhushan to its board of directors, as the company looks to strengthen its monetisation strategy and expand its advertising and enterprise business globally.
Bhushan joins the board with more than 25 years of experience across consumer, digital and media businesses.
Most recently, he served as India director - global marketing solutions, Meta, till 2022, where he worked on expanding digital economic participation in one of the company’s largest markets.
His appointment comes at a time when Truecaller is actively shifting its advertising strategy from traditional programmatic display advertising towards a diversified, high-intent B2B SaaS model and premium rich-media formats.
The move is aimed at reducing dependence on third-party ad partners while increasing revenue through direct business relationships.
Bhushan’s experience across technology, media and consumer ecosystems is expected to support the company’s next phase of expansion, particularly as it scales its advertising and enterprise verification businesses across markets including India, the Middle East and Latin America.
Over the years, Bhushan has held leadership roles at Samsung, where he led marketing and operator partnerships for its smartphone business. He was also a founding member and COO, Mint, helping build one of India’s leading business media platforms. Before that, he spent over a decade at Unilever in leadership positions.
Truecaller said Bhushan’s understanding of consumer and media markets, monetisation strategies and long-term user trust would play a key role in shaping the company’s future growth trajectory.
The company currently has more than 500 million active users globally and has seen rapid growth in its advertising and enterprise verification businesses in recent years.
Bhushan is also currently a board member at Traya Health and The Advertising Standards Council of India.
He holds no shares in Truecaller and will serve as an independent board member in relation to the company, its management and major shareholders.
Nami Zarringhalam, co-founder, Truecaller, said, "Sandeep’s appointment to the Board marks an important addition. His strong background in scaling monetisation and consumer franchises across top global platforms will bring a valuable perspective to our journey, along with a strong understanding of high-growth markets like India and APAC. His experience will be invaluable as we continue to scale our multiple revenue streams."
Bhushan added, "Truecaller has built a powerful platform at a global scale, where trust and monetisation must evolve together. As digital ecosystems mature, getting this balance right becomes a key differentiator. I look forward to engaging with the Board and management team to help shape the next phase of the company’s continued growth journey.”
