Nadir Godrej, chairperson and managing director, Godrej Group, took to the dais at the IAA Leadership Awards and delivered poetry. 

Godrej, who was chairperson of the jury for the awards night, through poetry addressed matters like climate change, diversity, human rights, and talked about the importance of teamwork.

Here's his poetry in full:

For every athlete we should cheer,
Especially in an Olympic year,
Many award winners won the race,
After setting a blistering pace.

We are here for a long-distance run,
We'll face the challenge and still have fun,
Citius, altius, fortius - is a call, 
That will help to guide us all,

Even if our path gets longer,
We should go high up, faster and stronger.

Let's follow the model to the letter, 
But also try and do it better,
There are many benefits we can see, 
With an emphasis on ESG.

Being on the planet has a cost, 
But if we are smart, nothing is lost.
While we decarbonise, 
Why not also monetise?

Through action and advocacy,
We can help all humanity,
The vision that we must all share is a brave new world,
Both green and fair,
The environment isn't all,
Society must take a call,
 

Throughout the chain, 
Let's keep in sight,
Every person's human rights,
It's business as usual,
Not bravery to end child labour and slavery,
All businesses should seek, the broadest reach of diversity.

Not only is it fair and right, 
It would give us the best insight,
Since life is full of many hard knocks,
We need to think out of the box.

Diversity is the perfect aid,
When we are required to wade through troubled water or clogged wires,
Unusual thought is what inspires.

We should be the trendsetter, 
Be faster, stronger, higher, better.

The world now is changing fast,
Nothing is quite like the past,
Climate change impacts us all, 
Are we headed for a fall?

Social media links us all,
It helps us rise and may cause a fall.
It should help for unity, 
But divisions are what we see.

Biases are amplified,
Different groups tend to divide,
The world is now polarised,
No middle ground seems to be prized.

What you learn from these rhymes is,
We live in interesting times. 
It could be fun,
It could be worse.

Interesting times is a Chinese curse.
There are many challenges we have to face,
Let's do it with good grace.

I'm sure that you will find,
If you keep good values in mind, 
Along with collaborative teams,
Respectful teamwork always sees a balanced way to proceed.

The secret sauce that we need,
If we listen well and collaborate,
Our future will be truly great.
