HDFC Bank has rolled out ‘Vigil Aunty Says: Laziness Saves’, a fraud awareness campaign that uses comedy to encourage consumers to pause before responding to suspicious digital transactions.
The seven-episode comedy special is streaming exclusively on JioHotstar from 15 August 2026, and features stand-up comedians Aakash Gupta, Gaurav Kapoor, Ramkumar Natarajan, Harsh Gujral, Sonu Venugopal, Munawar Faruqui and Kenny Sebastian.
Conceptualised by FCBKinnect, the campaign focuses on a common tactic used across digital frauds: creating a sense of urgency to push people into acting without thinking. The series addresses scenarios including fake OTP requests, phishing links and digital arrest scams.
The campaign's central message is that when faced with a suspicious request, pausing or doing nothing can be the safer response.
HDFC Bank said the initiative is aimed at digital banking and online payment users across age groups, with a particular focus on Gen Z and digital-first audiences. By using comedy and an entertainment-led format, the bank is looking to make fraud prevention advice more relatable and shareable.
The campaign features Vigil Aunty, a fictional character created by HDFC Bank to explain digital fraud risks in everyday language. The character has more than 2.2 million followers across social media platforms.
Ravi Santhanam, chief marketing officer and group head, HDFC Bank, said, "Fraudsters use panic and urgency to manipulate people into making quick mistakes. 'Vigil Aunty Says - Laziness Saves' intends to talk to audiences in a language they love - comedy. Vigil Aunty, along with India's top stand-up comedians, will spread awareness on the modus operandi used by fraudsters. We are delighted to leverage the network of JioHotstar in this endeavour to reach a wide audience and share the message of staying alert while transacting on digital platforms.”
