WhatsApp by Meta has rolled out a film that shows how a North Indian chef (Ikbir) has teething issues when he moves to Bengaluru, but eventually wins over them with a little help of the medium and a lot of hard work.
The film conceptualised by BBDO India, shows how Ikbir first struggles by understanding the language while conversing with his rickshaw driver. That continues inside the kitchen too, with his colleagues conversing in Kannada. He takes to WhatsApp to exchange voice notes about the situation. His mother gives him the advice to win over this colleagues via the food route itself. He does so, and soon there's a culture change with the WhatsApp group mandating the conversation in English itself. Ikbir too takes Kannada speaking classes via Whatsapp. It ends with the head chef impresses with Ikbir's cooking skills.
What we think about it: The heart-warming film definitely does win our heart. Like Kartik Srinivasan quoted on LinkedIn, the timing of it comes soon after the Karnataka bill mandating reservations for locals in the private sector, making it absolutely relevant.
The film was published across social media on 29 July.
