Keerthi Nirmal dishes up an Onam feast with an inter-planetary twist

Kerala-based rice brand Keerthi Nirmal has rolled out a campaign ahead of Onam that’s - quite literally - out of this world.

Conceptualised and executed by Storytellers Union, the film features actors Dain Davis and Siraj in a delightfully exaggerated narrative that transports viewers from Earth to outer space, powered by a dash of AI.

The story opens with two astronauts stranded on an unidentified planet after a botched mission. Cut off from Earth, they slip into nostalgia about home and the approaching festival of Onam. As one laments missing his family’s Onam feast, the other pulls out a frozen Onasadya pack from Keerthi Nirmal. The absurdity peaks when their post-feast burps travel across the universe, serving as a signal to Earth that the duo are alive.

What we think about it: By boldly venturing into interplanetary territory, the film dodges predictable festive tropes to deliver a highly imaginative tale that scores on humour and engagement. In a festive season cluttered with clichés, full credit to the agency for the creative leap, and to the brand for embracing an unconventional festive campaign, while not falling into the trap of taking itself too seriously.
